"Branding" gets quoted at ₹3,000 and at ₹30 lakh, and both quotes can be honest. They are simply different products. One is a logo file. The other is research, positioning, a naming decision, a visual and verbal system and the rollout across every place customers meet you. Most businesses need something in between, and the hard part is knowing which parts of brand identity work you are actually paying for.

This guide lays out the price bands, what each should include, the costs that sit outside a branding quote, and how to tell whether you need a rebrand or just a refresh. All figures are typical planning ranges for India in 2026, drawn from what the market quotes. Confirm them with written proposals.

How much does branding cost in India in 2026?#

Price bandTypical range (2026)What you usually getSuits
Freelance or marketplace logo₹2,000–₹25,000A few logo options, final files in common formats, little or no researchSide projects, testing an idea, very early start-ups
Studio logo and essentials₹25,000–₹1 lakhLogo suite, colour palette, typefaces, business card, social templates, a short style sheetSmall businesses that need to look professional quickly
Complete visual identity₹1 lakh–₹4 lakhDiscovery workshop, positioning, logo system, graphic language, full guidelines, rollout across key touchpointsBusinesses launching properly, raising prices or expanding to new markets
Strategy-led brand programme₹5 lakh and aboveCustomer research, naming or architecture, verbal identity, identity system, multi-channel rollout, often motionLarger companies, multi-product groups, national or GCC launches

Typical ranges. Printing, trademark filing, photography and GST are extra. Confirm with quotes.

The biggest jump in value is usually between the second and third bands. A logo-and-essentials package gives you assets. A complete identity gives you a system: rules that let your staff, printers, sign makers and agencies produce new material that still looks like you, without calling the designer every time.

What is the difference between a logo, an identity and a brand strategy?#

These three words get used interchangeably in quotes. They should not be.

A mark, a wordmark or both. It identifies you, but it cannot carry a brand alone. A logo has to work at every size, from a hoarding on the national highway to a WhatsApp profile picture, and in one colour on a rubber stamp or an embroidered uniform.

A visual identity#

The full kit around the logo: colour palette, typography, graphic elements, photography and illustration style, layout rules, iconography and motion. It is documented in guidelines so anyone can apply it consistently. This is what makes a brand recognisable before anyone reads the name.

A brand strategy#

The thinking that comes before the design: who you serve, what you stand for, how you are different from the three competitors a buyer is also considering, and how you talk. Strategy decides whether the identity should feel premium or accessible, traditional or modern, local or international. Without it, design choices are just taste.

What should each price band include?#

For a sense of what a complete system covers in practice, our Kursii seating brand identity went from a monogram and guidelines to billboard, signage, fleet and stationery mockups.

What costs are usually not in a branding quote?#

These are the lines that surprise people after the design is signed off.

Trademark registration#

A logo you cannot protect is a risk. In India, the government fee for a new trade mark application filed online (Form TM-A) is ₹4,500 per class for individuals, start-ups and small enterprises, and ₹9,000 per class for others (opens in a new tab). Most businesses need more than one class, and a trade mark attorney's fees are extra. Run a search before you finalise the name and mark, not after the signboard is up.

If you sell in the UAE, registration there is separate, charged per class, and the fees were revised in November 2025. Check the current schedule on the UAE Ministry of Economy & Tourism's trademark page (opens in a new tab) before you budget.

Font licences#

Commercial typefaces are licensed by use: desktop, web, app and sometimes by the number of staff. A licence for your brand font across a website and an app can cost more than a small logo project. Google's open-source fonts are an alternative; Google states they are free for commercial use, including in logos (opens in a new tab).

Packaging and labels#

Packaging is its own discipline: structure, dielines, print proofs and legally required label information. In India that includes the Legal Metrology declarations such as MRP, net quantity, manufacturer details and consumer-care contact; Gulf markets add Arabic labelling rules. Budget packaging design separately from the identity, usually per product or per range.

Everything that makes the brand visible#

Printing, signage fabrication, vehicle wraps, uniforms, a website update and new photography. None of these are usually in a branding fee, and together they often cost more than the design.

What makes branding cost more or less?#

The same identity scope can be quoted very differently. These are the levers:

  • Research depth. Customer interviews and a proper competitor audit take time. They also prevent expensive mistakes.
  • Decision-makers. Two founders who agree are faster than a family board with five opinions. Every extra review round adds cost.
  • Naming. Creating and checking a new name, including domains, social handles and trade mark searches, is a project on its own.
  • Number of applications. A café needs a sign, menu and cups. A manufacturer may need 40 packaging variants, trucks and trade-show stands.
  • Brand architecture. Sub-brands and product lines need rules for how they relate to the parent.
  • Languages and markets. A bilingual English–Arabic identity needs an Arabic logotype designed to match, not a font swapped in later.
  • Who does the work. A senior team with a strategist, designer and motion designer costs more than a solo freelancer, and should deliver more.
  • Timeline. Rush jobs cost more everywhere.

Do you need a rebrand, or is a refresh enough?#

A refresh keeps what customers already recognise and fixes execution: a cleaner logo, a tighter palette, consistent templates. A rebrand changes the brand's position, and often the name, logo and story with it.

What you are seeingRefreshRebrand
Customers recognise you, but materials look inconsistentYes
The logo breaks at small sizes, such as app icons and profile picturesYes
The identity looks dated, but the business has not changedYes
You are moving upmarket or changing your price pointYes
You are entering the Gulf or a new region where the name or story does not travelYes
A merger, a new owner or a new business lineYes
Your name is confused with a competitor or faces a trade mark conflictYes

A refresh often costs a fraction of a full identity, commonly ₹40,000–₹1.5 lakh depending on how many materials need redoing. Our guide on whether to rebrand or refresh walks through the signs in more detail.

How do costs compare across Kerala, the metros and the Gulf?#

Pricing follows team seniority and overheads more than geography. Large agencies in Mumbai, Bengaluru or Delhi with big teams usually quote higher than independent studios for comparable scope, and agencies outside the metros, Kerala included, often work from a lower cost base. Gulf agencies quote in AED and their overheads are higher again. For Gulf-market identity projects handled from India, the identities we scope typically run AED 8,000–25,000, depending on scope and whether an Arabic logotype is needed.

What matters more than the city is the portfolio. Ask to see complete identity systems, not just logos on mock-ups, and ask who on the team did the work.

How do you brief a branding project so the quote is accurate?#

A vague brief gets a vague quote. Before you ask for prices, write down:

  1. Why now? Launch, expansion, new price point, a name problem.
  2. Who buys from you, and who you want to buy from you in three years.
  3. Three competitors your customers also consider.
  4. Where the brand will appear: signage, packaging, website, social, vehicles, uniforms.
  5. Markets and languages: Kerala only, pan-India, the GCC.
  6. Who approves, and how many people will review.
  7. Deadline and the budget range you are working with.

Sharing a budget range is not a weakness. It lets a designer or agency propose the right scope instead of guessing.

Frequently asked questions#

How much does a logo design cost in Kerala?#

A freelance logo typically costs ₹2,000–₹25,000, and a studio logo with basic brand essentials usually ₹25,000–₹1 lakh. A complete identity from a studio or agency, with strategy and guidelines, usually runs ₹1–4 lakh. Ask what is included, not just what the logo costs.

Is a cheap logo a bad idea?#

Not always. For a side project or an idea you are still testing, a simple logo is sensible. It becomes a problem when the business grows and the logo cannot scale, cannot be trade marked, or was adapted from a template someone else also uses. Budget for a proper identity when you are ready to invest in growth.

How long does a branding project take?#

As a planning guide, a logo package takes two to four weeks, a complete identity six to ten weeks, and a strategy-led programme with research three to six months. Feedback speed on your side is the biggest variable.

Only if your contract says so. Ask for a written assignment of copyright in the final artwork, plus editable source files, as part of the deliverables. Indian copyright law requires an assignment to be in writing, so an invoice alone is not enough.

Should I register a trade mark before launching?#

Search first, then file as early as you can. A search tells you whether the name and mark are likely to be available. Filing early establishes your date of application. Changing a name after signage, packaging and ads are live costs far more than a trade mark application.
