The brief

What Damascas needed

A new premium world-cuisine restaurant in Kozhikode needed an identity that reads as global fine dining without losing its Calicut roots.

The city's food culture and its history as a spice port had to fit a quiet, luxurious system, one that holds up on the façade, the uniforms, the menus, social media and outdoor.

The idea

Global tastes, Kozhikodan soul.

Global elegance on local roots. The book tells Kozhikode's story as a city shaped by the ocean, whose ports brought travellers and spices into Malabar food, a place where "food is more than tradition; it is emotion, identity, and legacy".

The emblem draws three ideas into one. The Wave of Calicut Beach and the Arabian Sea rises into the Fire of the dum and the charcoal grill, then settles into a Chef's Cap: modern, disciplined, premium dining.

Colour tells the same story. Deep Teal is "the colour of mastery… a sanctuary"; Champagne Gold is "the spark against the shadow", the warmth of hospitality.

Logo

The mark

Five flame-and-wave strokes fan into a shell-like toque, the right-hand strokes curling into wave scrolls. The wordmark uses soft, flared letters, with THE ART OF WORLDLY DINING letterspaced beneath.

The system has a stacked primary logo (gold on teal, teal on gold), a horizontal lockup, the emblem alone for crests and tiles, and a circular badge seal in solid and outline forms. Clear space, one-colour versions and minimum sizes are all set: 355 px recommended for the lockups, 90 px for the emblem.

System

Everything around the logo

  • A wave-scroll pattern of fine line-art ocean swirls, teal on teal or gold on teal, used as border bands and full-bleed texture.
  • A wave-cut edge: a teal field cut into a wave, with GLOBAL TASTES, KOZHIKODAN SOUL set along the curve.
  • Teal pill-tabs with gold caps, rounded colour blocks in teal and gold, and the gold emblem tiled as a quiet background.
4 more from the book
  • A heritage line illustration: a panorama of Kozhikode landmarks and spice-trade ships.
  • Photography direction: low-key world-cuisine plates, candle-lit teal-and-brass rooms, chefs at work and the old Kozhikode pier at sunset. In the book it is mood imagery, not the restaurant.
  • Voice: quiet luxury in short lines. "Tradition, Plated." "Pure. Refined. Remarkable." "Sizzle & Savour."
  • A Malayalam teaser, ആരും പറയാത്തൊരു കഥ (a story no one has told), with a smile-curve under കഥ and "Spreading soon".
