- Plan Ramadan 2027 now, not in January
Ramadan is the one month when every Gulf market moves together. Viewing shifts late into the night, shopping baskets change, and brands that shout in the same way as the rest of the year get tuned out. If you plan campaigns across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain, or want GCC marketing run from one team with country-by-country creative, Ramadan is where that planning pays off or falls apart.
This guide gives you the dates, a week-by-week plan, posting times, creative dos and don'ts, and a starting budget split. It also applies to Kerala and Indian brands selling to Gulf Malayalis, and to brands in the Malabar region at home, where Ramadan shapes the calendar too. Plan it now: the best Ramadan campaigns are shot before the new year.
When is Ramadan 2027, and which dates matter?#
Astronomical calculations put the first day of Ramadan 1448 AH on Monday 8 February 2027, with the crescent sought on the evening of 7 February and Eid al-Fitr forecast for Wednesday 10 March (opens in a new tab). These are estimates. Each country's religious authorities confirm the start after sighting the moon, and dates can differ by a day between countries. Build every schedule with a one-day buffer.
How does daily behaviour change during Ramadan?#
The whole day moves. In the UAE, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation cut private-sector working hours by two hours a day (opens in a new tab) for Ramadan 2026, as it has in previous years, and other GCC countries shorten the working day too. Iftar falls a little after 6 pm in Dubai in February and early March, and slightly earlier in Riyadh, which is an hour behind.
Google's Ramadan guidance for 2026, citing Memob data, says the bulk of digital browsing, shopping and decision-making happens between 8 pm and 2 am (opens in a new tab), with 38% of engagement after evening taraweeh prayers and 24% before suhoor. The same piece cites an Ipsos finding that 71% of people in MENA feel overwhelmed by ads during the month. The message is clear: people are online more, and they are less patient with noise.
What does a week-by-week Ramadan 2027 plan look like?#
Before Ramadan: build and tease#
Most of the work happens before the month starts. Shoot in December or early January, before crews and studios are booked up for Ramadan work, and cut 20 to 40 short videos from each shoot: hooks, product moments, recipes, founder messages and Eid versions. Check that every creator you brief holds the right licence, and set up the WhatsApp replies, catalogues and payment links you will need at midnight.
Week one: settle in#
The first days are about adjusting to the fast. Brands that open with hard offers look out of step. Lead with warmth: iftar recipes, community stories, a charity partnership you can explain in one line. Reach bought now is not wasted: the people who watch your videos this week become the retargeting pool for weeks two to four.
Weeks two and three: gifting and consideration#
Shopping picks up as families plan Eid outfits, gifts and hosting. Move to product-led content, gift guides and bundles. Treat Saudi Founding Day and Kuwait's national days as separate moments with their own tone; do not paste national colours onto a Ramadan lantern.
The last ten nights: the peak#
This is the spiritual high point of the month and, for many categories, the commercial one. Late-night shopping peaks, delivery deadlines matter, and charitable giving rises. Put your largest share of budget here, publish clear order cut-off dates for Eid delivery, and staff WhatsApp until the early hours.
Eid al-Fitr: the hand-off#
Prepare two versions of every Eid greeting, one for each likely date, and publish when your country announces it. After Eid, thank customers, ask buyers for reviews and invite them to opt in to WhatsApp updates, so the customers you paid for in Ramadan hear from you again.
When should you post and run ads?#
- Organic posts: schedule the main post 30 to 60 minutes after iftar, a second slot after taraweeh (around 9:30–10:30 pm), and a lighter one before suhoor.
- Time zones: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain are an hour behind the UAE and Oman, and iftar times differ by city. Schedule per country, not once for the whole GCC.
- Meta ads: ad scheduling needs a lifetime budget. If your data shows most orders come late at night, use lifetime-budget campaigns with evening and night schedules, but keep prospecting running through the day at a lower weight.
- Google Ads: search demand continues all day, so keep search campaigns on and use ad schedules to raise bids in the evening.
- Replies: plan WhatsApp and DM cover until 1 or 2 am in the last ten nights. A lead that waits until morning has often bought elsewhere.
What creative works in Ramadan, and what should you avoid?#
Creators need permits. Since 1 February 2026, anyone publishing advertising content on social media from within the UAE needs a UAE Media Council Advertiser Permit (opens in a new tab), and paid creators in Saudi Arabia need a Mawthooq licence. Check before you brief, not after the post goes live.
For the formats that tend to work in Gulf feeds, from founder-to-camera films to reply-to-comment videos, see our guide to short-form video formats that sell in the Gulf.
Which platforms matter in each GCC market?#
Saudi Arabia deserves its own plan. DataReportal puts Snapchat's ad reach in Saudi Arabia at 72.9% of the population (opens in a new tab) in late 2025, far higher than in most markets, so Saudi Ramadan budgets that skip Snapchat miss a large part of the audience. We cover Saudi specifics on our Riyadh and Saudi Arabia page.
How should you split your Ramadan budget?#
Do not spread the budget evenly across the month. Weight it towards the moments when people are ready to buy, and use the early weeks to build the audiences you will sell to later.
A starting split, not a benchmark. Food delivery brands usually spend more evenly; fashion and gifting brands lean harder into the last ten nights.
Expect auction costs to rise through the month as more advertisers compete, and watch your own cost per result week by week rather than relying on last year's numbers. Because audiences are small and viewing is concentrated at night, frequency climbs fast: plan fresh cuts every week or two, and cap frequency on prospecting campaigns.
A Ramadan readiness checklist for mid-January#
- Creative shot, edited and approved in every language you need, with two Eid greeting versions.
- Offers, bundles and stock confirmed, with Eid delivery cut-off dates agreed with your logistics partner.
- Creator permits and licences checked for each market.
- WhatsApp templates approved, catalogue updated, payment links tested and a late-night reply rota agreed.
- Tracking checked end to end: pixel, Conversions API, GA4 and CRM, so late-night sales are attributed properly.
- Country-by-country schedules built for posts and ads, with a one-day buffer for the moon sighting.
Frequently asked questions#
When exactly does Ramadan 2027 start?#
Astronomical calculations point to Monday 8 February 2027, with Eid al-Fitr around Wednesday 10 March. The official start is confirmed by moon sighting in each country, so it can move by a day and may differ between GCC countries. Prepare content for both possible dates.
Should brands advertise during Ramadan at all?#
Yes, if the tone fits the month. People spend more time online during Ramadan, but many say they feel overwhelmed by ads, so fewer, better-made ads with a clear purpose work better than more of the same. Respect, relevance and timing matter more than volume.
What is the best time to post during Ramadan?#
After iftar and after taraweeh prayers are the main windows, roughly from 7 pm to midnight, with a smaller window before suhoor. Check your own account insights each week and adjust per country, because iftar times differ across the GCC.
Can we run one Ramadan campaign across all GCC countries?#
One idea can travel; one set of ads rarely should. Keep a shared concept, then change the dialect, platforms, offers and schedules per country, with separate budgets so Saudi Arabia's scale does not swallow smaller markets such as Bahrain or Oman.
Should Kerala and Indian brands run Ramadan campaigns?#
If your customers include Gulf Malayalis or Muslim families at home, yes. Many Kerala brands sell to both, and Ramadan shapes shopping in Malabar as well as in Dubai. Run separate campaigns for each audience, with their own language, timing and offers.
Plan Ramadan 2027 now, not in January#
The brands that do well in Ramadan decide their story in November, shoot in December and spend January fine-tuning, not scrambling.
